Roaring Fork Utility Locators is a family owned utility locating business based in Basalt, Colorado.  Since 2001 we have been providing utility locates from Aspen to Glenwood Springs, and from Parachute to Vail.   With state of the art equipment and over 30 years of combined experience, we have what you need to ensure a happy uneventful dig. 

How does this all work?

We are a private utility locating company.  We compliment (never replace) public utility locates. 

Public utility locates are done by companies that are hired by facility owners to locate their lines.  In Colorado, all public utility locates are coordinated under the 811 Dispatch Center.   If you are digging, you are legally required to call 811, or to fill out their form at https://colorado811.org/.  811 will notify all public utilities in your area, and those public utilities are legally required to respond within 2 business days of your request.  They are required to do this either by putting paint on the ground, or notifying you that you are in the clear.

So why do you need us?

Not all utilities are considered public, and what is defined as public or private depends on the utility owner.  Holy Cross Electric, for example, considers the service to your house private, and will not locate it.  Other companies will not locate anything on private property.  Just because there are no paint marks, does not mean that there is nothing there.  We have the expertise to look at an area and know what is missing from the picture.
